Ian Leigh was born on the 11th June 1962 and made his debut with Hamrun Spartans in September 1986 against Zurrieq and he managed to keep a clean sheet. Hamrun had won 2-0 on that day.
He was an excellent goalkeeper and in my opinion, was one of the best foreigners ever to play for the Spartans. He spent six seasons with Hamrun and played his last match in the league against Valletta on April 1992 in which Hamrun lost 3-1. He was very famous for his powerful shot and Hamrun used to benefit from his long kicks which in many occasions resulted in assists for the attackers and even goals. He also was the penalty taker for the Spartans in that period.
