Marco Grech was born on the 28 th October 1962. He made his league debut on the 17th January 1981 against Birkirkara in which Hamrun Spartans won 2-0.
Marco Grech always played for the Spartans shirt from his nursery days till his very last match, in the 1995/96 season, which was a 3-0 defeat against Valletta on the 4th October 1996.
Marco Grech used to play in the heart of defence, as central defender, and was one of the best markers in Maltese football, although many times, he did the dirty work for Hamrun and so was rarely in the limelight. The only thing which Marco missed in his carreer was an international call-up.
His carreer covers an impressive 17 years in the red and black jersey in which he played 221 league matches and more than 300 offiacial matches with the Spartans which maked him the player which played most for the Spartans in the club history.
