The Christmas Cup

The MFA Christmas Cup was an ill-fated attempt to recreate the popular and post-war Christmas Tourneys when top continental sides visited Malta during the Christmas period. It was contested between the four first division teams currently leading the classification. However, times had changed and football, particularly shorn of foreign talent, did not have such a widespread festive season appeal and after five unsuccessful seasons, the competition was wound-up. Hamrun Spartans never won this honour.
